Aspiring Adminstrators in India must successfully pass the formidable challenge of the Civil Service Examination (popularly called the IAS Examination), held annually by the Union Public Service Commission. A three stage examination, which spans the duration of one entire year, is easily the most competitive examination in the country. The first stage of this examination is taken by not less than 400,000 candidate-who complete for only about 400-700 posts in various services (includig the IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS etc.) in the country’s civil administration. The examination has evolved in such a way that it goes far beyond being merely a test of the candidate’s knowledge, expression and other intellectal traits. this examination is also very much a test of one’s steely nerves, unflinching determination and an ability to deliver a shining performance even under appareantly difficult situations. No wonder, there are many who call this examination the most difficult one in the world!
